Our more than 2.4 million acres of timberland in the Western United States are sustainably managed by professionals in our Forestry Division. Currently, our Ryderwood Forestry District has an opening for a qualified District Forester to help manage the Company’s timberlands in Lewis, Pacific, Thurston, and Cowlitz counties. The successful applicant is expected to work out of our district office located in Centralia, Washington
.

About the Position
  • Manage and implement all aspects of a silviculture program including reforestation, vegetation management, and tree improvement
  • Collaborate in the development of silvicultural budgets and forecasts
  • Assist with the timber harvest program, including performing harvest unit layout and permitting, administering road building and logging contracts, and ensure log quality control
  • Professionally and effectively interact with interact with state regulatory agencies and diverse groups
  • Maintain essential documentation and critical databases related to reforestation activities
  • Effectively work both within a team setting as well as independently in remote areas
  • Perform forestry-related projects in a wide range of weather and field conditions using maps, compass, or GPS
  • Assist and collaborate in other forestry work on the district as needed
Qualifications
  • 3 years’ experience in silviculture in the Pacific Northwest
  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, or related field, or equivalent recent, relevant work experience
  • Understanding of silvicultural practices and cost considerations
  • Work experience with Washington forest practice rules
  • Valid Washington driver’s license or the ability to obtain a valid Washington driver’s license
  • Demonstrated ability to drive hazardous mountain roads
  • Skilled with Word, Outlook, Excel, and ArcGIS software
  • Excellent organizational skills, self-motivated, and a strong work ethic

The general wage range for this position at Sierra Pacific Industries is from $65,000 to $110,000 per year, and is dependent upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to: relevant work experience, skill, knowledge, and/or education.
