Physics Associate

Job Description:

The Physics Associate will provide medical physics consulting services in the areas of x-ray, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine health physics, while supporting the work of the company’s Medical Physicists in mammography, MRI, CT, and nuclear medicine. The primary purpose of the position is to provide medical physics support services while gaining experience. Work will take place at the company office in Centralia, WA as well as off-site at medical facilities located primarily in the Northwest.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position (40 hours/week). Work hours will be split between working off-site at medical facilities and working at the company office. Work hours and schedule may vary depending on the company’s job schedule. Some long days (14 hours) of work are occasionally required. Overnight travel may be required several times per year (expected to not exceed 20 nights per year).

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in physics, math, engineering, or other related field required
• Technical aptitude and trainability
• Able to work on your feet for 8-10 hours occasionally
• Strong work ethic
• Willingness to take initiative
• Ability to present a professional image (appropriate dress, language, and mannerism) in accordance with company policies
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
• Ability to interact comfortably with strangers and people of a variety of different personalities and backgrounds
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe software.
• This position requires frequent travel to client facilities, including locations and schedules not accessible by public transportation. Candidates must be able to reliably travel to assigned job sites.
• Able to lift 50 lbs
• Must be able to enter MRI facilities (no major embedded ferrous objects)
• Able to obtain vaccinations as required by medical facilities

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Complete basic radiation safety training provided by Corwin Health Physics (CHP) and demonstrate a thorough understanding of basic radiation safety concepts and how they apply to consulting work.
• Learn and demonstrate proficiency in established company processes and procedures for evaluating diagnostic medical imaging equipment.
• Become independent in conducting x-ray physics evaluations (in compliance with company standards and WSDOH and JACHO requirements) on a variety of different system makes and models within 1 year of start date.
• Become independent in providing quarterly health physics services for nuclear medicine (in compliance with company standards and NRC, ACR, and WSDOH regulations), as needed within 2 years of start date.
• Travel with medical physicists to assist in performing surveys for MRI, CT, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine equipment in compliance with company and ACR standards.
• Assist in writing corresponding reports for surveys in all modalities. This requires the correct use of company templates and a thorough understanding of testing procedures.
• Prepare radiation shielding designs. This involves providing the appropriate forms to clients, collecting the necessary information from architects and medical facilities, and preparing the report and DOH paperwork according to DOH specifications.
• Provide consulting services and training to clients in the areas of radiation safety and medical physics.
