Department Manager – DC (Centralia)

Manages and supports assigned team members to achieve business and operational objectives in safety, accuracy, production, and inventory control in the Distribution Center (DC). Provides work direction and timely information to both the team members and leadership to ensure overall operational success.

Major Activities
  • Operations Management – responsible for establishing and executing plans that align with operational and organizational objectives; ensures team members follow standard operating procedures and guidelines to maintain internal and regulatory compliance; identifies and resolves production or communication issues that may impact operational success; implements processes that ensure accurate inventory processing and delivery to customers.
  • Safety and Compliance – ensures all team members work safely and address any behaviors or conditions that increase safety risk; partners with Loss Prevention, DC and network leaders to address safety or security concerns; conducts safety training and provides proper tools and PPE to ensure compliance with all relevant internal and regulatory safety and physical security guidelines.
  • Team Building – interviews, onboards, and trains team members; provides tools and resources to achieve performance objectives; responsible for the growth and development of all direct reports; builds a positive culture that prioritizes engagement, recognition, open communication, respect, and trust; addresses performance, attendance, behavior, and conduct issues through coaching and corrective action in partnership with Human Resources and senior leadership.
  • Other Responsibilities – employs logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, makes effective decisions or recommendations; demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, maintains confidentiality, sustains a respectful workplace; manages time effectively balancing on‑floor presence and office time; participates in special projects and performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be able to work all shifts, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • Experience with labor management systems (LMS) and warehouse management systems (WMS) preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and WMS applications; strong computer literacy.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; good problem‑solving and change‑management skills.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a comparable operational environment or successful completion of Michaels’ Leadership Training program.
