Job Description
Helps to provide a warm, well‑lit, inviting atmosphere inside and outside of the classrooms and buildings in support of the overall mission of Centralia College to improve peoples' lives through lifelong learning.
This position reports to the Director of Maintenance and performs a variety of semi‑skilled maintenance duties requiring a limited knowledge of various trade skills such as carpentry, electrical, painting, etc. Positions may work either independently in routine maintenance assignments, or under the technical direction of a journey worker.
Duties and Responsibilities- Maintenance, operation, and repair of minor electrical, mechanical, and structural systems of buildings and grounds.
- May assist journey trades workers by performing duties related to carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing, mechanical or electrical work, refrigeration maintenance, etc.
- Operate hand tools, power tools and other shop equipment used in the trade shops with a minimum of supervision. May operate automotive equipment to transport materials and supplies.
- Perform limited painting assignments involving use of pressure washers, ladders, lifts, rollers, or paint spray equipment.
- Follow directions and advice of Maintenance lead(s) in performing unfamiliar duties.
- May perform minor maintenance on pickup truck, golf carts, scooters and lifts such as oil changes, lubrication, fix flats, repair lights, fan belts, etc., and upkeep of batteries on the electrical equipment.
- Check HVAC air filters for installation or replacement and keep up-to-date inventory records.
- Assist in the fabrication of equipment and materials constructed in trades shops in accordance with project requirements.
- Collect and recycle old paint and batteries used in the maintenance department.
- Change lamps, ballast and batteries as needed and keep up-to-date inventory records.
- Perform related duties as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent and two years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work.
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
- Experience working in a facilities, maintenance, construction, or trades‑related environment.
- Basic knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and preventative maintenance processes.
- Ability to troubleshoot routine maintenance issues and determine appropriate next steps.
- Experience working safely around tools, equipment, and maintenance materials.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain accurate records.
This is a 40 hours per week, 12‑month position. Classified employees are represented by the Washington State Federation of State Employees (WFSE). The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees.
This position is fully in‑person and based on campus. Remote work is not available for this role.

Centralia College is unable to extend post‑completion optional practical training (OPT) to F‑1 students who receive STEM degrees.
