Machine Learning Engineer II

Overview

The Machine Learning Engineer II will be a member of the Learning and Active Perception (LEAP) group in AV’s Mac Cready Works division and develop a variety of innovative computer vision detection, classification, localization, and tracking solutions for defense and commercial applications. Development efforts will require skills across computer vision, machine learning, optimization, deep convolutional neural networks, and visual tracking, and will span requirements definition, concept design, prototyping, detailed design, testing, evaluation, and verification.

• Support development of computer vision and machine learning algorithms capable of detecting, classifying, localizing, and tracking objects of interest from stationary and mobile sensor platforms.
• Implement ML algorithms and validate designs through purpose‑designed experiments.
• Analyze ML algorithms to solve given problems and rank them by success probability on new data.
• Set objectives and develop models that help achieve them, along with metrics to track progress.
• Select appropriate datasets and data representations.
• Analyze model errors and design strategies to overcome them.
• Write and test software to support integration of machine learning algorithms into aircraft (autopilots, payloads, or other functional components) or other systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related science or engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 2–5 years of relevant experience in machine learning and/or computer vision.
• Familiarity with C/C++ or Python.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
• Proficiency with a deep learning framework such as Tensor Flow or Keras.
• Proficiency with basic libraries for machine learning such as scikit‑learn and pandas.
• Proficiency with OpenCV.
• Familiarity with Linux.
• Experience visualizing and manipulating large datasets, exploratory data analysis, and predictive analytics.

• Familiarity with office software and computer‑based productivity tools.
• Ability to work within defined requirements to complete tasks under moderate supervision.

Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (frequent).

Salary range: $102,000 – $144,375.

This position requires access to information subject to ITAR and/or EAR compliance. Applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR and EAR or be approved for an export license. U.S. citizenship is required for some roles and for clearance eligibility.
