As a Fleet Operations Officer, you play a central role in ensuring Ampath’s national fleet operates smoothly, reliably, and in full alignment with our operational needs. This is a role where your decisions genuinely shape the day to day effectiveness of our services. You will oversee the coordination and management of our vehicles, ensuring they remain safe, compliant, cost effective, and ready to support our teams across the country.
By bringing a thoughtful, solutions focused approach, you help to strengthen a high performance environment where our people can deliver their best work with confidence.
To thrive in this role, you need a relevant degree in Transport Management, Fleet Management, Logistics, or an equivalent field. This forms the foundation for making informed, responsible decisions that support the organisation’s broader service and operational commitments, while also empowering you to lead confidently and uphold accountability across the fleet function.
You bring 6–8 years of fleet operations experience, backed by strong mechanical and technical insight. You have a proven ability to handle insurance claims, accident resolution, and risk mitigation, and you are comfortable leading and optimising the day‑to‑day operations of a national, business owned fleet. Experience in a laboratory, healthcare, or similar operational environment is an advantage, supporting your ability to connect fleet decisions with the realities of high‑stake service environments that depend on reliability and efficiency.
SkillsRequirements
This role calls for a professional who understands the complexities of South African fleet regulations, including NRTA, AARTO and the OSH Act, and can confidently apply them in a practical, day‑to‑day context. You have comprehensive knowledge of fleet systems, platforms such as Wes Bank, and strong MS Excel capability to support meaningful reporting and optimisation.
Your technical insight helps you assess vehicle condition with confidence, guiding repair or replacement decisions in a way that balances safety, value, and operational continuity. You bring exceptional negotiation skills, allowing you to secure strong relationships and service levels with suppliers, repairers, and insurers.
Your financial and commercial acumen enables you to evaluate budgets, understand fleet related expenditure, and make informed decisions that support both cost efficiency and long‑term sustainability. You approach problem solving with analytical depth, using trends and data to shape solutions that prevent downtime and support smoother operations across all regions.
With strong planning and organisational capability, you are able to coordinate multiple moving parts at once, from preventative maintenance schedules to replacement cycles and resource allocation. Above all, you lead with clarity and purpose. You guide and develop your team with a mindset rooted in accountability, safety, continuous improvement, and creating an environment where people feel supported to grow their capability for the future.
RoleImpact
Your work enables Ampath to function seamlessly. Every vehicle on the road, every route completed on time, and every successful delivery is influenced by the stability and foresight you bring to fleet operations. You will need to create a space where the team feels empowered and engaged, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and strong collaboration across departments.
By developing your team, identifying opportunities, and nurturing talent, you contribute to a future ready fleet function, one that supports succession, builds capability, and strengthens the reliability of our national operations. Your strategic decisions and commitment to excellence ensure that our fleet not only meets today’s needs but is also well prepared to support the organisation’s evolving priorities.
