Ed Services...Inst Para I PE (K-6)

Overall responsibilities include assisting the teacher in a variety of activities including organizing and maintenance of materials and equipment, instructing and assisting students, maintaining records and monitoring activities and assignments.

Specific responsibilities include assisting PE teachers in the supervision and instruction of students in physical education classes, organizing and directing students' outdoor and indoor PE activities under the direction of a PE teacher, moving from site to site on a daily rotation with PE teachers as assigned, demonstrating and leading exercises, physical activities, or games for students during class periods, providing and/or reinforcing instruction to individual students and groups of students as directed, assisting in implementing Individual Educational Plan goals, monitoring student assignments, assisting with the maintenance of student records, student progress, and assisting in the organization, maintenance, and inventory of physical education equipment, assisting in administering and monitoring of student assessment and progress, becoming familiar with physical education instructional materials and appropriate assessment tools, supporting and assisting in the enforcement of classroom, school and district rules, maintaining good public relations with students, parents, staff, and community, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications include knowledge of general principles of child growth and development, organization and management of large and small groups of students, basic English usage and math skills, general office machines; ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of personalities and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work, pass Proficiency Test, operate office machines, learn quickly the subject areas taught in specific assignment(s), understand and implement oral and written directions in English, sustain vigorous physical activity for extended periods of time;

experience of one year working with school age students; education of high school diploma or equivalent; supervision under general supervision, reports to the P.E. teacher, receives direction and assistance from assigned certificated staff member(s).

Physical demands include talking or hearing, standing, walking, sitting, moving, running, exercising including stretching, bending, stooping or kicking, performing other active movements, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, equipment, or controls, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, tasting or smelling, lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds individually or with assistance, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment includes outside weather conditions and rarely exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, noise level usually moderate to loud.

Title I paraprofessionals whose duties include instructional support must have: high school diploma or the equivalent, two years of college (48 units), or A.A. degree (or higher), or pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction.
