Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled part‑time associate general practice veterinarian. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high‑quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with our clients. You will work alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and collaborate closely with the hospital manager and regional manager.

Location

American Pet Clinic is located in Ceres, CA—a family‑friendly Central Valley city with 11 parks, including the 76‑acre River Bluff Regional Park, and a busy recreation center. The town offers good schools, nearby amenities, and growing transit access.

Salary Overview

  • Salary Range (full‑time): $180,000–$200,000
  • No negative accrual and no non‑compete
  • Part‑time compensation is prorated based on experience and hours/shifts worked. Salaries listed reflect full‑time roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups
  • Communicate and educate clients
  • Perform diagnostic procedures and surgery
  • Maintain accurate medical records
  • Handle pharmacy duties, such as prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols
  • Promote teamwork and staff efficiency
  • Coordinate weekly priorities and expectations with the hospital manager
  • Evaluate and monitor hospital protocols from intake to discharge
  • Monitor cases and attend daily rounds when possible to uphold high standards
  • Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications (Required)

  • Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university
  • Current state veterinary license
  • DEA registration obtained and maintained
  • At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary practice
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical skills
  • Excellent surgical and dental skills
  • Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to providing compassionate and high‑quality care
  • Client communication skills: ability to elicit information, establish rapport, offer explanations to pet owners
  • Confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed or ill pets
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds; may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
  • Ability to perform moderately physically demanding work periodically

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

  • Advanced clinical knowledge and skill in animal examination and assessment, including cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other necessary examinations
  • Problem‑solving skills for high‑quality hospital management
  • Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and staff
  • Professionalism, ability to provide and receive constructive criticism and feedback
  • Business acumen, understanding of practice management and finances
  • Ethical knowledge guiding patient‑related decisions
  • Commitment to continuing education and facilitation of colleagues’ learning

Pay Range

$180,000 – $200,000 USD (full‑time equivalent)
