Position: EHS Engineer / Maintenance Supervisor

SUMMARY

The EHS Engineer / Maintenance Supervisor combines the data and compliance responsibilities of an EHS representative with the physical implementation work of the Maintenance Team. The role ensures employee safety, health, and environmental compliance, provides guidance, implements processes, and fosters a safety culture. The EHS Supervisor collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

As Maintenance Supervisor, the candidate leads the maintenance department, including facilities, mechanical technicians, tooling, and general maintenance operations, and communicates updates across the facility.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to identify hazards and risks.
  • Maintain material safety data sheets (MSDS) and ensure accessibility.
  • Lead the safety committee and coordinate employee training programs on EHS topics.
  • Partner with HR and department leaders to investigate incidents, accidents, and near‑misses, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage relationships with regulatory agencies, conduct inspections, and ensure timely reporting and permit renewals.
  • Develop and maintain written compliance plans, including an Emergency Response Plan, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan, and Spill Prevention Plan.
  • Oversee the Maintenance Team, machine maintenance, and facility maintenance.
  • Schedule repairs with third‑party companies and vendors for preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain E‑Maintenance software: WO Distribution, Model Shop WO, WO Closing, and Preventive Maintenance Orders.
  • Track tooling inventory and replacement components, and enforce Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Coordinate facility improvement and compliance activities with the Fire Department, Landlord, Electrical, and OSHA safety teams.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or sciences with 3+ years of experience, or 10+ years in a technical engineering role.
  • Experience integrating EHS management systems with ISO‑9001 quality systems; ISO 13485 preferred.
  • Experience in a Lean manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience overseeing ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 improvements.
  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. regulatory requirements (RCRA, OSHA, EPA).
  • Experience developing safety training programs and written SOPs.
  • 1–3 years of leadership and people management experience.
  • 1–3 years of machine knowledge and understanding.
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or cable assembly industries favored.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Certification in relevant EHS disciplines (e.g., CSP, CEP, CIH) preferred.
  • Current OSHA 40‑hour hazardous waste operator.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Conversational skills in another language are a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must sit for extended periods while operating a computer, frequently use hands for typing and handling objects, and communicate verbally. May need to stand, walk, reach, and occasionally lift objects up to 20 pounds, pushing or pulling, and keyboarding. Reasonable accommodations will be provided per ADA regulations.
