Mechanical Estimator
A well-established mechanical contractor is seeking a skilled Estimator with a strong background in HVAC/R systems and design-build project delivery. This position plays a critical role in generating accurate proposals and system layouts from concept to completion. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with mechanical estimating and is proficient in Bluebeam and CAD. Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed estimates and takeoffs for HVAC/R projects based on plan/spec documents, field walks, and load calculations
- Use Bluebeam and CAD to develop system layouts and support accurate proposals
- Collaborate with sales, project management, and field teams to ensure bids reflect scope, constructability, and cost-efficiency
- Support design-build initiatives, including equipment selection, duct/piping layouts, and performance specifications
- Participate in client meetings, site visits, and pre-bid walkthroughs to gather project-specific information
- Assist in the preparation and negotiation of contracts and project handoffs
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HVAC/R systems, codes, and industry best practices
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in mechanical estimating, HVAC/R design, or project engineering
- Strong proficiency in Bluebeam, CAD, and Microsoft Excel/Word
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and mechanical drawings
- Familiarity with various HVAC/R systems including chilled water, DX, split systems, VRF, and refrigeration
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously and work under tight deadlines
- Prior experience estimating design-build or plan-spec mechanical projects
- Exposure to healthcare, industrial, marine, or commercial environments
- Understanding of load calculation tools, energy modeling, and lifecycle costing
