Design Engineering Manager

Upwing Energy is developing and commercializing their novel downhole compression system (SCS) and a new topside compression solution (ICS) along with several supporting electrical and hydraulic products (SCC, HCC). Our development efforts combine exciting engineering challenges in turbo machinery; rotor dynamics; high-speed and high-power electric motors; power electronics; industrial automation; aerodynamics; structural, thermal and fluid flow simulations; advanced controls; mechanical design and design-for-manufacturability.

Product Development defines product architecture and performs detailed design of all Upwing products. The Design Engineering Manager will manage the team of people and the overall process responsible for delivering these activities. Team members include design engineers, designers, and change management specialists.

• Oversee the planning, execution, and optimization of mechanical design in support of new programs and sustaining existing products in accordance with our product development process.
• Develop and manage intake process to align priorities throughout the organization and ensure timely release of new products, key projects, and critical analyses
• Ensure that Geometric Design and Tolerances standards are applied to drawings per ASME Y14.5
• Ensure that new drawings and part revisions are released and revision controlled per Upwing Engineering Change Review Process.
• Manage the validation and release of new assemblies using the Upwing Product Development Process.
• Provide timely feedback, recognition, and correction as appropriate to help the team members perform at their best, reflecting the Upwing Energy culture and values.
• Facilitate documented individual development plans, updated periodically to provide a clear path for career progression and a sense of growth and potential to members of the mechanical design & analysis team.
• Manage skills inventory of the design and analysis team, planning for capacity, both short- and long-term to meet company growth objectives.
• Lead and mentor a team of mechanical designers and mechanical engineers, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and high performance

• Engineering degree (Mechanical or Electrical)
• A minimum of 5 years of product development, engineering and/or test experience with a minimum of 3 years of mechanical design and/or analysis experience.
• Demonstrated effective management experience is required
• Experience with rotating machinery, turbo machinery, power electronics or industrial automation of complex systems is strongly preferred
• Strong familiarity with a wide range of data acquisition equipment and control/automation of that equipment is a plus
• Solid Works experience is preferred
• Strong written and oral communication skills

• The Design Engineering Manager will supervise 5 or more employees, a mix of engineers and designers that perform mechanical design and analysis of our product offering

Most time will be spent in an office environment or shop floor. Personal protective equipment is required in designated areas. Minimal travel will be required to support products in the field.
