California Regional Controller

Description About the role

Norm Reeves Automotive Group is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented California Regional Controller to oversee all accounting functions across our 12 California dealerships. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the financial integrity, operational accuracy, and strategic reporting of one of the largest automotive groups in the region. The Regional Controller will partner closely with the CFO and operational leadership to drive financial performance, ensure compliance, and support continued growth.

Oversee all accounting operations across 12 California dealership locations, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all financial functions.

Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of financial statements, reconciliations, and reporting packages.

Support corporate accounting functions, including consolidations, intercompany transactions, and reporting in alignment with corporate standards.

Partner with the CFO to deliver timely and accurate financial reporting, variance analysis, and forward-looking insights to senior leadership.

Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets and ensure regulatory compliance, with specific attention to California labor law, wage and hour requirements, and dealership‑specific regulatory obligations.

Ensure accounting procedures account for the financial statement and cost‑tracking implications of California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliance mandates.

Lead, mentor, and develop accounting teams across the California region, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies as required.

Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement efficiencies across the regional portfolio.

Automotive dealership accounting experience is required; multi‑franchise or large‑group dealership experience strongly preferred.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA strongly preferred.

7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a multi‑site or regional controller role, preferably within an automotive dealership group.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint); comfort with financial reporting tools and accounting dashboards.

Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.

Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to present financial data clearly to non‑financial stakeholders.
