Pay or shift range: $90,000 USD to $120,000 USD. The salary range is based on a variety of factors, including experience, education, certifications and geographic location.
DescriptionSAS Safety, a division of Bunzl and a leading industrial safety manufacturer and distributor for over 40 years, is currently seeking a Purchasing Supervisor. This position is on-site at our office in Cerritos, CA. The Purchasing Supervisor will lead inventory management, demand planning, supplier coordination, and purchasing operations to ensure product availability, optimized working capital, and strong customer service performance.
This role requires a proactive, analytical leader who can drive replenishment strategies, manage international suppliers, and oversee global logistics from production through delivery. The ideal candidate brings proven experience supervising teams, negotiating with foreign suppliers, navigating international freight and customs processes, and improving key performance indicators (such as inventory turns, fill rates, and on time delivery).
Responsibilities- Supervise daily purchasing and replenishment activities to maintain adequate inventory levels aligned with customer demand and company objectives.
- Monitor inventory performance metrics including turns, fill rates, working capital utilization, and stock availability.
- Develop and execute replenishment strategies to achieve KPI targets for turn rate, fill rate, and service levels.
- Review demand forecasts and inventory requirements to ensure timely product availability while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
- Place, manage, and track purchase orders with domestic and international suppliers, ensuring accuracy and alignment with production schedules and lead times.
- Maintain strong supplier relationships, resolve supply issues, and drive on‑time delivery performance.
- Support sourcing initiatives including supplier evaluation, cost analysis, negotiation, and onboarding.
- Monitor ocean freight logistics, container scheduling, customs requirements, and tariff implications affecting cost and delivery timelines.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal teams to ensure smooth inbound flow of goods.
- Partner with Sales, Operations, Finance, and Customer Service to support forecasting accuracy, inventory planning, and customer service objectives.
- Communicate supply risks, delays, and mitigation plans proactively.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly purchasing and inventory reports for leadership.
- Lead problem‑solving efforts related to inventory shortages, supplier performance issues, and replenishment challenges.
- Support supply chain improvement projects focused on inventory optimization, cost reduction, and operational efficiency.
- Provide guidance and oversight to Purchasing team members.
- Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Support the Senior Director with departmental responsibilities, strategic initiatives, and analytical reporting.
- High school diploma required;
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, Finance, or related field preferred. - 5+ years of purchasing, inventory management, demand planning, or supply chain experience.
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of inventory management principles, working capital management, inventory turns, and fill rate performance metrics.
- Experience managing foreign suppliers and international purchasing operations.
- Knowledge of ocean freight logistics, international shipping processes, tariffs, and import/export procedures.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience with ERP systems, product information systems, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work proactively in a fast‑paced environment while meeting deadlines and operational goals.
