Job Summary
Responsible for leading the activities of production employees to maintain safety, quality, and efficient productions. The Production Supervisor is responsible for training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, safely maximizing quality, and leading employees to improve.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist the Superintendent/Plant Manager in leading production.
- Responsible for shift safety activities to include housekeeping, working with production employees and shift maintenance to address safety concerns that can be remedied on shift.
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders, and assign duties.
- Interface with others in the company to ensure customer deadlines are met.
- Inspect and measure parts and products to verify conformance to specifications.
- Acts as a resource to the production employees in helping resolve key issues and concerns, while identifying best practices and efficiencies.
- Explains and enforces policies, identifies violations of policies and procedures to the Shift Supervisor for further action.
- Document training with HR; coordinate relevant training sessions.
- Plan and organize the department schedule per manager by assessing projects and required resources to meet the daily production schedule.
- Assist in assessing root‑cause failure analysis for quality concerns and issues.
- Attentive to safety, productivity, quality standards, and lean manufacturing techniques.
- Provide feedback to the Superintendent regarding employee performance, morale, and training gaps.
- Ensure all safety procedures are followed by employees.
- Work closely with the safety department to eliminate hazards and maintain team safety.
- Supply employees with correct tools and safety equipment.
- Participate in all safety training and lead by example.
- Ensure safety is an integral part of all operations.
- Comply with all safety guidelines and procedures.
- Coach and train employees on safe work practices.
- Provide each employee with proper training for their position.
- Ensure all machines are in good running condition; enter work orders for issues and follow up for correction.
- Cross‑train all employees to maximize skill set and fill in on any machine for calls‑ins as needed.
- Work closely with maintenance to ensure breakdowns are repaired quickly.
- Organize and follow up on preventive maintenance for all converting machines.
- Coach and mentor crews on areas needing improvement; provide necessary resources.
- Communicate weekly production numbers to crews.
- Help eliminate bottlenecks to improve uptime and reduce setup times.
- Manage the production floor to allow machines to run at maximum speed with minimal downtime.
- Ensure ongoing housekeeping to keep the plant visitor‑ready.
- Provide employees with proper tools to keep work areas clean and organized.
- Lead by example and help maintain a clean plant.
- Assign areas to employees and monitor cleanliness.
This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
- 2+ years in a supervisory role.
- 5+ years in manufacturing, with corrugated industry experience highly preferred.
- Prior leadership experience.
- Project management skills.
- Technical skills.
- Organization and efficiency.
- Problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
- Knowledge of equipment design and capabilities for efficient operation.
- Read and interpret product layout and production specifications.
