Instrument Technician

PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating, through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities. We are a growing organization seeking talented Instrument Technicians to join our team as pivotal members of PBF Energy. This role is located at Chalmette Refinery in Chalmette, LA.

JOB SUMMARY

The Instrument Technician installs, calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots components of instrumentation systems within the refinery. Instrumentation includes temperature, pressure, and level transmitters, control circuits, motorized valves, programmable logic controllers, and process and environmental analyzers. Associated equipment, including process tubing, junction boxes, marshaling racks, conduit, and wiring are also installed and maintained by the Instrument Technician

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supports the site's Loss Prevention System by conducting loss prevention observations on peers, identifying and reporting near losses to supervision, contributing to the development of site safety standards, and participating in loss investigations as necessary
  • Complies with all site policies and procedures
  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots various types of instruments contained within indication, control, and process safety systems and ensures the installation adheres to national codes and site standards
  • Coordinates with supervision to identify, order, and install replacements for defective parts
  • Interfaces with the Engineering Department to identify opportunities to upgrade instrumentation to improve reliability via the Management of Change process
  • Performs offline and online preventative maintenance procedures and produces maintenance records, including new work requests when deficiencies or improvements are identified
  • Monitors the performance of installed instrumentation equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacements
  • Operates handheld test equipment (including multi-meters, pressure calibrators, smart communicators, thermocouple/RTD simulators, dead weight testers, meggers, etc.)
  • Researches documentation from various sources for specification validation, makes necessary adjustments, and documents all values and changes
  • Interprets blueprints, loop drawings, electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams, etc.
  • Mounts instruments and valves into position and completes circuits and tubing according to specifications
  • Identifies and uses a variety of hand and power tools in a safe manner
  • Works unaccompanied at times, and in team settings with all crafts, including Company employees and vendors, to perform maintenance activities
  • Operates refinery vehicles (including power lift equipment, man lifts, trucks and scooters)
  • Interfaces with refinery computers and networks to troubleshoot and monitor equipment, generate work notifications, provide feedback on job execution, complete training, receive instruction, etc.
  • Performs job tasks outside under varying weather conditions which may include ladder and stair climbing
  • Communicates effectively at a technical level with Supervision and Operations personnel, both written and orally
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Required Job Qualifications :

  • Experience as a journeyman in the instrument/electrical trade that has performed tasks directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
  • Ability to install and maintain instruments, control valves, conduit, wiring, and tubing
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of electronic, pneumatic, and testing instruments.

Preferred Job Qualifications :

  • Possesses Level II electrical safety training, including knowledge of the construction and repair of electrical systems that includes 480, 2300, 4160, and 13.8KV
  • Programs and maintains various PLC systems (including Modicon, Quantum, Triplex, and Triconex brands)
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of vibration monitoring systems and process analyzers (including chromatography, spectrometry, and electrochemistry)
  • Demonstrates a proficiency in the use of computers running Microsoft Office Suite and SAP software
