HS Agriculture Teacher Position

Purpose To develop students' knowledge, skills, and interest in agricultural sciences, agribusiness, natural resources, and related career pathways by implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress, activities, and outcomes; developing engaging, hands-on lesson plans and laboratory experiences; modeling industry-relevant skills and best practices; providing a safe and productive learning environment in both classroom and laboratory settings; fostering leadership, career readiness, and experiential learning opportunities;

and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, and achievement.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and administers the school agricultural education curriculum consistent with district goals, state standards, and career and technical education objectives.
  • Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, laboratory activities, and supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs) that translate curriculum into meaningful learning opportunities for students.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in agricultural science, agribusiness, animal science, plant science, natural resources, environmental systems, agricultural mechanics, food systems, and related agricultural fields, following the course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
  • Provides instruction that promotes scientific inquiry, problem-solving, critical thinking, technical skill development, and career readiness within agricultural pathways.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and technical skill attainment and modifies instructional methods to meet individual student needs, including those of students with special needs.
  • Demonstrates agricultural techniques and industry practices through classroom instruction, laboratory experiences, demonstrations, and hands-on learning activities.
  • Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of classroom instruction, laboratory work, project-based learning, and career exploration.
  • Instructs students in the proper use, care, maintenance, and safety procedures associated with agricultural tools, equipment, machinery, laboratories, greenhouses, and other instructional facilities.
  • Evaluates student performance, technical competencies, leadership development, and academic growth, and prepares progress reports as required.
  • Supervises and supports student participation in Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs), work-based learning opportunities, internships, and other experiential learning activities.
  • Advises and supports the local FFA chapter, including leadership development activities, competitions, community service projects, conferences, and student events.
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with agricultural businesses, industry representatives, postsecondary institutions, and community organizations to enhance student learning and career opportunities.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and remain current with developments in agricultural education, industry practices, and educational methodologies through professional development activities, conferences, workshops, and research.
  • Organizes and maintains accurate records related to student achievement, attendance, safety training, laboratory activities, FFA participation, and SAE programs as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' educational and career development and ensures effective communication with students, parents, and community stakeholders.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies and establishes and maintains standards of behavior necessary to provide a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Coordinates with counselors, administrators, career and technical education personnel, and other professional staff members to support student success and program development.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate textbooks, instructional materials, laboratory supplies, equipment, and agricultural resources and maintains inventory records.
  • Maintains classroom, laboratory, greenhouse, land laboratory, and shop facilities in a safe, organized, and functional condition that supports student learning and complies with applicable safety regulations.
  • Promotes awareness of agricultural careers, leadership opportunities, and postsecondary pathways while encouraging students to become responsible citizens and lifelong learners.

Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
