The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for implementing, directing and coordinating the care of patients through the use of the nursing process: assessment, planning implementation and evaluation. Included is recognition and treatment of the physical and psychosocial changes unique to the age/population group served on the specific unit.

4. Accurately transcribes physician's orders.

7. Demonstrates involvement in unit by attending 50% of staff/committee meetings and in-services for area.
8. Demonstrates leadership through the nursing process and supervision while maintaining accountability for treatment and patient outcomes.
9. Acts as a resource person regarding patient care, specialty area, orientation and teaching of staff.
10. Responds to delays in a calm manner. Apologizes for inconveniences and gives alternatives.
11. Analyzes assessment data, identifies priority problems and documents on Plan of Care in PCS for patients and families and significant others.
12. Uses effective problem-solving skills to plan patient care.
13. Identifies critical factors evidencing changes in patient condition and responds appropriately.
14. Completes and documents discharge assessment against plan of care goals.
15. Initiates and maintains Intravenous Therapy according to IV standards.
16. Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
17. Utilizes proper body mechanics to prevent injury to self and others. Safely positions, transfers and transports patients.
18. Functions as a virtual nurse as assigned which includes, but is not limited to, admissions, discharges, education, documentation through a virtual platform and working collaboratively with the bedside nursing staff.
Department:
Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)
1. Provides basic dysrhythmia interpretation and treatment.
2. Provides basic and advanced life support.
3. Drug dosage calculation, continuous medication infusion administration, and patient monitoring for medication affects (e.g., vasoactive agents, platelet inhibitors, ant arrhythmic agents, insulin.).
4. Monitoring patients using standardized procedures for preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative procedures (e.g., cardiac catheterization with percutaneous coronary intervention, chest tube insertion).
5. Cares for patients with a tracheotomy.
6. Hemodynamic monitoring including equipment setup and troubleshooting, monitoring, and recognition of signs and symptoms of patient instability.
7. Recognition of the signs and symptoms of cardiopulmonary emergencies and initiation of standardized interventions to stabilize the patient awaiting transfer to critical care.
8. Interpretation of arterial blood gas analysis and communication of findings
9. Recognizes indications for and management of patients requiring noninvasive oxygen delivery systems including oral airways, bi-level positive airway pressure, and continuous positive airway pressure.
10. Recognition of indications for and complications of enteral and parenteral nutrition.
11. Assessment, monitoring, and management of patients requiring renal therapeutic interventions (e.g., hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, stents, continuous bladder irrigation, urostomies).
12. Completes a 12 lead EKG.
13. Completes cardiac rehab exercises.
14. Draws blood from an arterial line.
15. Describes role and responsibility in assessing and reporting physical, emotional, sexual abuse, and neglect.
16. Maintains general cleanliness of department.
17. Demonstrates proper application of external pacemaker.
18. Recognition of and evaluation of the family's need for enhanced involvement in care to facilitate the transition from hospital to home.
