Residential Service Plumber

This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and installing plumbing systems in residential settings, including new construction, remodels, and service calls. You will work directly in private homes and multi-unit housing to resolve plumbing issues, install and maintain fixtures and piping systems, and ensure all work meets local codes and safety standards. The position requires strong technical skills, clear communication with homeowners and team members, and a consistent commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair residential plumbing issues, including leaks, clogs, low water pressure, and faulty fixtures.
  • Install, maintain, and repair water supply lines, drainage systems, and plumbing fixtures such as toilets, sinks, faucets, and related components.
  • Perform rough-ins above and below ground and complete trim-outs for new construction and renovation projects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, building specifications, and technical diagrams to determine plumbing layout, materials, and installation methods.
  • Cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipe to required angles and dimensions using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Work with a variety of piping materials, including PVC, CPVC, PEX, copper, cast iron, steel, and no-hub systems.
  • Use soldering, brazing, gluing, and mechanical joining techniques (including Pro Press or Shark Bite fittings) for new installations and repairs.
  • Install and service plumbing systems and components such as well pumps, drain waste and vent (DWV) systems, and related equipment.
  • Respond to scheduled and emergency service calls, providing timely, courteous, and professional service to homeowners and occupants.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on each job.
  • Ensure all work complies with local plumbing codes, building regulations, and safety standards.
  • Operate plumbing tools and equipment safely and maintain them in good working condition.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with homeowners, tenants, and team members to explain issues, proposed solutions, and work performed.
  • Collaborate with other trades and crew members on new construction and renovation projects as needed.
  • Follow company safety policies and best practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and safe work procedures.

Essential Skills

  • 3–5 years of residential plumbing experience, including both new construction and service work.
  • Proficiency in plumbing system installation and repair, including rough-ins, finish plumbing, and fixture installation.
  • Strong skills in pipe fitting and material handling, with the ability to work confidently with copper, PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and steel piping.
  • Ability to cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipes accurately using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with soldering copper, gluing PVC, and using Pro Press or Shark Bite fittings.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, building plans, and technical diagrams.
  • Familiarity with drain waste and vent (DWV) systems and their installation and maintenance requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities to quickly identify and resolve plumbing issues.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills when interacting with homeowners and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks, including working in confined spaces and elevated areas.
  • Capability to work safely indoors and outdoors in a variety of conditions and environments.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record to travel reliably between job sites.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Plumbing Apprentice or Journeyman License as required by applicable state or local regulations.
  • Experience with residential construction, including new builds, remodels, and service work.
  • Comfort using a wide range of plumbing tools and equipment for installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a small crew, adapting to changing job site needs.
