After school Teacher & Closing Supervisor Job Description
The After school Teacher & Closing Supervisor supports the school’s afternoon program, summer camp operations, and is responsible for properly closing the building each day. This role ensures a safe, organized, and positive environment for children and staff while maintaining high standards through the end of the day.
During the introductory period, the employee’s supervisor will explain job responsibilities and performance expectations. From time to time, the employee may be asked to support additional tasks or special projects that contribute to the overall success of KLA Schools. Flexibility, teamwork, and a positive attitude are expected and appreciated.
Key ResponsibilitiesAfter school Program Support
- Supports a calm, engaging, and structured after school environment
- Works with small groups of children of varying abilities and interests
- Assists with afternoon activities, outdoor play, and transitions
- Supports children in conflict resolution with minimal but intentional intervention
- Maintains active supervision at all times
- Assists with snack and ensures proper food handling (checking temperature before serving)
- Supports dismissal procedures and family interactions
Summer Camp Support
- Assists with daily camp activities, transitions, and special events
- Supports outdoor experiences, water play, and enrichment activities
- Ensures children’s safety during all camp programming, including high-energy activities
- Helps maintain organization of materials, supplies, and shared spaces
- Supports field trip preparation and on-campus experiences as needed
Classroom & Environment Responsibilities
- Maintains clean, organized, and inviting classroom spaces
- Ensures bathrooms are clean and stocked (sink, toilet, floors, changing areas)
- Follows proper diapering and toileting procedures
- Keeps children’s belongings labeled and organized
- Assists with rest time or quiet transitions when needed
- Cleans and resets classroom areas after use
- Responsible for fully closing the building each day
- Ensures all children have been signed out and safely dismissed
- Conducts final walkthrough of all classrooms, bathrooms, and shared spaces
- Ensures classrooms are clean, organized, and reset for the next day
- Turns off lights, secures doors, and follows all closing and security procedures
- Ensures compliance with all health, safety, and licensing requirements
- Supports staff during dismissal and ensures ratios are maintained until closing
- Communicates any concerns, incidents, or maintenance needs to leadership
- Reports directly to the School Director and leadership team
- Works closely with Head Teachers and classroom teams
- 18 years or older
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or higher (preferred)
- 45 hours of Childcare Training (required)
- CDA (preferred)
- Meets all state and background screening requirements
- Ability to lift, move, or hold children up to 40 pounds
- Ability to remain active for extended periods (standing, walking, bending, lifting)
- Strong supervision and classroom management skills
- Ability to remain calm, organized, and responsive in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Time management and attention to detail
- Commitment to the Reggio Emilia philosophy
- Flexibility to support multiple classrooms and school needs
- Bilingual (a plus)
- Adherence to all KLA Schools policies, procedures, and safety standards
- Arrives on time and prepared for shift
- Clocks in and out daily
- Maintains professional appearance and follows dress code
- Ensures the safety and supervision of children at all times
- Keeps classrooms and shared spaces clean and organized
- Supports a positive, respectful, and collaborative school culture
- Attends meetings and trainings as required
All employees are responsible for maintaining required in-service hours, certifications, and training. Failure to remain compliant may result in a three-month period to correct the deficiency. Continued non-compliance may result in suspension without pay until requirements are fulfilled and verified by school leadership.
