Job Description

As a member of the Atlanta Service Center, Machining Department, you will contribute to Steam Turbine Repair. This full‑time onsite position at our Chamblee, GA facility requires setup and operation of manual and numerically controlled machine tools, as well as assembly and disassembly of turbine components. New hires start with a 1st shift schedule (Mon‑Fri 6:00AM – 2:30PM) during training, then move to a 2nd shift schedule (Mon‑Fri 4:10PM – 1:00AM) upon completion.

Overtime is available but not mandatory; shift switches are possible based on business need.

Your Role
  • Prioritize safety above all else by maintaining rigorous adherence to safety standards and processes, ensuring safety risks and issues are identified, reported, and addressed immediately.
  • Follow methods, standards, and work instructions to set up and operate a variety of machines performing machining operations from simple to very complex using both manual and CNC (Computer Numeric Control) equipment, including mills, drills, grinders, lathes, and horizontal/vertical bore machines.
  • Select and grind tools in accordance with hardness, machine capability, and material properties.
  • Use a variety of measuring devices and associated shop equipment and tooling.
  • Utilize hand tools to assemble and disassemble components.
  • Embrace a culture of respect, valuing inclusive teams and diverse perspectives to direct and train others as assigned, enabling information flow.
  • Approach daily work with continuous improvement, working to reduce cycle time, improve machine availability and efficiency, and lower operating costs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to lift, move, and manipulate fixtures and component hardware up to 25 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations.
Basic Qualifications (requirements)
  • Associate's Degree in a Machining discipline and a minimum of 1 year general machine shop experience in set‑up and operation of a variety of manual and CNC machines: mills, drills, grinders, broaches, turret lathes, horizontal bore, EDM, engine lathes.

OR

  • High School Diploma/GED with a Machining certification from an accredited university covering Mathematics, CNC Milling, CNC Lathes, Print Reading, Machine Tooling, G& M code, FANUC controls, and hands‑on machine application, plus a minimum of 1 year general machine shop experience with a variety of manual and CNC machines as above.

OR

  • High School Diploma/GED with a Journeyman's card, completion of a Machining apprentice program, and a minimum of 1‑year general machine shop experience with a variety of manual and CNC machines as above.
Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to maintain rigorous adherence to safety standards and processes.
  • 5‑years’ experience in Steam Turbine Repairs.
  • 3‑years’ experience in Master Cam and Verisurf.
  • Strong math skills (trigonometry, algebra, etc.).
  • Experience programming CNC with M and G code.
  • Experience with large CNC lathe, horizontal boring mill (HBM), or large vertical boring mill (VBM).

The hourly rate for this position is $26.432 USD per hour.
