Construction Estimator

Responsibilities

The Residential Construction Estimator is responsible for accurately calculating the material, labor, and equipment costs required to complete residential construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of residential building methods, materials, and local labor rates, and will play a critical role in the bidding process and project profitability.

• Cost Estimation:
  Prepare detailed, accurate, and timely cost estimates for new construction, remodels, additions, and repair projects based on blueprints, specifications, and site visits.
• Blueprint Analysis:
  Interpret architectural drawings and project specifications to perform quantity take-offs for all construction components (e.g., framing, finishes, mechanical, electrical, plumbing).
• Bidding & Tendering:
  Solicit, review, and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and scope coverage.
• Documentation:
  Maintain a comprehensive database of historical cost data, vendor quotes, and finalized estimates.
• Client & Team Communication:
  Collaborate with project managers, sales teams, and clients to discuss estimate details, identify potential value engineering opportunities, and address scope changes.

Utilize construction estimating software and Microsoft Excel to produce organized and professional bid packages. Other tasks as needed.

• Education:
  
  Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Experience:
  
  Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in residential construction estimating or a related role.
• Technical
  
  Skills:
  
  Proven ability to read and interpret complex residential construction drawings and specifications.
• Mathematical Proficiency:
  Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
• Software:
  Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Planswift, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
• Knowledge of local building codes and permitting processes.
• Familiarity with project management principles.
