Dental hygiene adjunct faculty appointments are located on Parkland College's Campus in Champaign, Illinois and have a pay range of $44.06 - $54.36 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Adjunct faculty teach part‑time, advise, and mentor students. Hiring needs depend on student enrollment and course schedules. Courses may be available during days, evenings, weekends or online. This position is an on‑campus, part‑time appointment covered by the Parkland College part‑time faculty collective bargaining unit.

- Adhere to the established policies and procedures of the college while performing professional duties.
- Provide clinical instruction aligned with the college's stated philosophy, objectives, and established course outlines.
- Assist students with all aspects of patient care, including treatment and treatment planning.
- Attend faculty calibration meetings to maintain consistent instructional standards.
- Collaborate with the lead clinical instructor to remain up‑to‑date with curriculum and policy changes.
- Work with the clinical dentist to ensure the delivery of high‑quality patient care.
- Monitor and evaluate students’ clinical performance to ensure compliance with professional standards and competencies.
- Maintain accurate documentation of student performance, patient treatment, and clinical activities.
- Provide both formative and summative feedback to students to support their development.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to students to develop their clinical and professional skills.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and safety standards in the clinical setting.
- Facilitate students’ understanding of ethical and legal responsibilities in dental hygiene practice.
- Assist with student remediation efforts by identifying areas of improvement and implementing strategies for success.
- Participate in periodic curriculum reviews and contribute to program development and enhancement.
- Engage in professional development activities to stay current in dental hygiene education and clinical advancements.
- Be available for student advising/mentoring, as needed.
- Maintain regular office hours to ensure availability for student consultation; provide assistance to students in a timely manner, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the clinical lead.
- Associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene. Certified official transcript is required if hired.
- Graduate of CODA accredited program.
- Current Illinois Dental Hygiene license.
- Five (5) years of experience in current dental hygiene practice treating adults, and nonsurgical periodontal therapy.
- Certified in local anesthesia and administration in nitrous oxide.
- Maintains all professional credentials required to teach in area of discipline.
- Prospective new hires will successfully complete a post‑offer, pre‑employment criminal background check.
- Must meet all clinical requirements, including successfully completing a post‑offer, pre‑employment clinical drug test.
- Ability to learn the Parkland information system and new programs as technology changes.
- In an effort to comply with SURS return‑to‑work restrictions for employers, candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend their SURS annuity upon employment. Applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self‑Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
