The Office of Career Planning and Professional Development at the University of Illinois College of Law provides career counseling services and job placement services in individual and group settings, assists in making connections with prospective employers, and offers guidance and programs aimed at enhancing the professional development of students and alumni throughout their career. Job Summary

Provide career counseling, advising, and outreach services to students and alumni of the University of Illinois College of Law.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Law Student Advising
    • Provide one-on-one academic advising to law students, including course advisement and program requirements.
    • Assist students in understanding the structure and degree requirements of the JD program to assist them with their professional development.
    • Provide ongoing academic advising support for students with increased availability at critical and high-volume advising times such as mid-semester deadlines, priority course registration periods, and other designated times throughout the academic year.
  • Law Student Career Counseling
    • Provide one-on-one career development advising services to law students focused on individual practice areas, settings, and/or markets.
  • Marketing and Employer Outreach, Research, and Reporting
    • Participate in the implementation of employer outreach strategies, and market the College of Law and its students to employers and prospective employers, including traveling to target markets and alumni events.
    • Present programs on employment, hiring, and marketing trends for legal employers upon request (how to best recruit and market to our students and alumni).
    • Research and analyze trends in legal and other hiring markets.
    • Strengthen relationships with employers and alumni. Interact regularly with alumni seeking to assist the College of Law by providing mentoring and employment opportunities.
    • Oversee and facilitate programming sponsored by the Office of Career Planning and Professional Development.
    • Connect current students to alumni mentors appropriate for the student's preferred practice areas/ setting/ market.
  • Administrative Tasks
    • Serve as liaison/representative for every job fair that College of Law students participate in and/or the College of Law co-sponsors.
    • Manage and update Job Fair intranet page.

Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctor from a U.S. law school.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after June 16, 2026. The salary range of employees currently holding equivalent positions is $70,000–$80,000. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
