Teaching Assistant - JW Eater Junior High School 2026/27
Role OverviewGeneral Education Teacher Assistant – JW Eater Junior High beginning with the 2026/27 school year.
Job SummaryTo assist the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students, small groups, or whole classrooms to help students achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole. To provide a well‑organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Responsibilities- Translate between the native language of bilingual students and English in classroom, meeting, or phone call situations.
- Translate documents from the native language to English.
- Administer, score, and record diagnostic tests.
- Assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
- Help students master equipment or instructional materials.
- Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work.
- Assist with supervision during emergency drills, assemblies, etc.
- Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in oral communication.
- Assist students in the library or media center.
- Check notebooks, correct papers, supervise testing and make‑up work.
- Assist with lunch, snack, wash‑up, toilet routines, and help students with clothing.
- Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about a student.
- Serve as the source of information for substitute teachers.
- Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
- Participate in in‑service training programs.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
- Minimum 60 college course‑credit hours or a state‑approved test granting paraprofessional certification.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in native language of bilingual students and English (fluently and grammatically correct).
- Live in or be familiar with the surrounding community.
- Valid Illinois Paraprofessional License.
- Base rate for 0 years of experience with High School Diploma: $18.57/hr
- Base rate for 0 years of experience with Associates Degree: $19.60/hr
- Base rate for 0 years of experience with Bachelors Degree: $20.63/hr
- Maximum rate for 30 years of experience with High School Diploma: $28.56/hr
- Maximum rate for 30 years of experience with Associates Degree: $29.60/hr
- Maximum rate for 30 years of experience with Bachelors Degree: $30.65/hr
