PositionPurpose
To develop students' interest, abilities, talents and skills for artistic expression and creativity in the visual arts, and to promote aesthetic understanding and appreciation by implementing district‑approved curriculum. Responsibilities include documenting teaching and student progress, developing lesson plans, modeling skills, providing a safe learning environment, and communicating student progress and expectations to parents and administration.
Essential Functions- Develop and administer school art curriculum consistent with district goals.
- Create lesson plans and instructional materials and translate them into engaging learning experiences.
- Teach knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and three‑dimensional art to secondary students.
- Model techniques in drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and teacher‑prepared aids.
- Provide instruction to develop aesthetic concepts, appreciation, and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student skills and modify instruction for individual needs, including students with special needs.
- Organize class time for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
- Teach proper care and use of tools and equipment used in art classes.
- Evaluate each student's performance and growth, preparing progress reports.
- Plan and present art displays and exhibitions for the school and community, and may sponsor external exhibits.
- Continuously acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or research.
- Maintain a system for accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance per district procedures and laws.
- Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure student conduct aligns with school standards and district policies, establishing a functional learning environment.
- Coordinate with other staff members, especially within the grade level, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select, requisition, and maintain inventory records of appropriate books, art materials, instructional aids, and equipment.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
