Student Employee - Mentor, Parkland Peers powered by Mentor Collective

Hourly Rate: $15.00

Student employees are hired on an as‑need basis; applications are reviewed over time and qualified applicants may be contacted for an interview as positions become available.

Student employment positions are part‑time, 19 hours or less per week, temporary/seasonal appointments. The work schedule depends on departmental needs and employee availability. Typical work hours are between 8 AM – 5 PM, Monday‑Friday. Additional information can be found on the Counseling Support Center webpage.

Parkland Peers mentors will work with their assigned mentees to establish a deeper sense of belonging and promote student engagement and retention at Parkland College. Mentors assist mentees in seeking timely and appropriate support from on‑campus resources and advocating for their educational needs. Mentors also develop professionally through trainings, weekly supervision, and by practicing as a support professional.

The Mentor is a part‑time student worker, with approximately 10‑15 hours per week. The Mentor’s appointment is scheduled by the Parkland Peers supervision team. Mentors work with around ten mentees and spend about 50% of their time in direct contact with students.

Mentors meet regularly with mentees and provide support and resources related to academics, work‑life balance, career, personal growth and mental health. They are not peer counselors and are not expected to provide all mental‑health needs; such concerns should be reported to the supervision team.

Mentors’ working hours are typically Monday‑Friday 8 AM‑5 PM. Supervisory meetings may occur on Saturdays or after 5 PM Monday‑Friday, but preferred hours are 8 AM‑5 PM Monday‑Friday. When Parkland College is closed (holidays, weather days, etc.) you are not permitted to work.
