Out-of-District Special Education Coordinator and Court Liaison - SAU #53
Position Summary:

SAU #53 is seeking a knowledgeable, organized and compassionate educator to oversee special education services/supports and case coordination for students whose educational needs require instruction in specialized school placements and who might be involved with court. This role requires an educator who has experience providing specially designed instruction, collaborating with families and caregivers, working with private special education providers and IEP team members to ensure appropriate educational opportunities and legal compliance.

This role requires an acute understanding of special education legal requirements including the implementation of instruction for students within the Least Restrictive Environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Out of District Coordination:

  • Act as the LEA representative and provide case management for students in Out-of-District (OOD) placements including placement and progress monitoring for special education students.
  • Oversee and assist with the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and the comprehensive coordination of services.
  • Visit out of district placements to determine the appropriate setting to meet the student's needs, attend placement meetings and work assertively with the out-of-district facility toward the achievement of student goals outlined in the IEP so that students can successfully return to public school programs.
  • Ensure the maintenance and organization of all files and paperwork specifically for students in Out-of-District placements.
  • Support students and their families to encourage academic and social-emotional success within specialized educational environments.
  • Collaborate with special education staff, courts, agencies, service providers, parents, public and private schools to address the educational needs of students.
  • Creation and delivery of specially designed instruction.

Court and Agency Liaison:

  • Manage all court representation and act as the primary liaison for students involved in the foster care system or court proceedings for the students of the school districts within SAU #53 (Allenstown, Chichester, Deerfield, Epsom and Pembroke).
  • Attend court hearings and facilitate communication between the school district and various outside agencies involved in student care.
  • Serve as a connection between school-based teams and external programs to ensure alignment of educational goals.
Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of special education regulations, procedures, and the diverse needs of students requiring out-of-district support.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex cases and coordinate multi-agency services effectively.
  • Exceptional communication skills for liaising with families, school-based teams, and court systems.
  • Deep understanding of program expectations, social-emotional competencies, and technology integration within special education.
  • Ability to work independently, attend court hearings and travel.
  • Ability to deliver direct instruction.
  • NH certified educator in a Special Education categorical area. Special Ed Administration certification preferred.
  • Master's degree in Special Education or School Psychology preferred.
