Position Overview

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Construction Resident Engineer located in one of our Central Illinois offices including Bloomington, Peoria, Pontiac, or Champaign, IL
. You will have an opportunity to work in the field on road and bridge construction projects.

The person in this position will lead and supervise a field staff in contract management, administration, field engineering services, and coordination of mid to large-sized heavy highway construction projects. The candidate should have a strong background in construction management, including residential streets, highways, bridges, utility relocation, trunk water main/sewer, retaining walls, stormwater pollution prevention, traffic control review, and related facilities. This role involves occasional exposure to heavy traffic or adverse weather conditions and requires the ability to think clearly and act effectively under these conditions.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise the construction inspection team.
  • Plan, prepare, and analyze construction documents.
  • Manage construction contracts utilizing CMMS software.
  • Supervise the preparation of inspector daily reports for inclusion on contractor progress payment estimates.
  • Review and analyze contractor project schedules, staging plans, traffic control plans, and other submittals to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Meet regularly with contractors to review work plans and schedules, resolve issues, and address scheduling concerns.
  • Assign, schedule, supervise, review, and accept work on behalf of the client.
  • Prioritize safety for personnel and the traveling public in all activities.
  • Administer contracts and ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Oversee activities of inspectors, coordinators, engineers, and administrative staff.
  • Monitor contractor work for schedule, budget, technical, and legal compliance.
  • Conduct progress meetings and prepare project status reports.
  • Implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify and act on potential changes, conflicts, ambiguities, and field condition changes.
  • Negotiate and resolve contractor conflicts and claims considering contract details.
  • Conduct site visits to assess construction conditions and issues.
  • Participate actively as a key member of the client's construction team.
  • Specific Requirements
    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
    • Minimum of 8 years of Resident Engineering experience in transportation projects.
    • Certifications:

      10 HR OSHA, IDOT HMA and Concrete Level 1, IDOT Aggregates.
    • Partnering approach to Construction Management.
    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Experience with IDOT, Tollway, and/or local agency federally funded projects.

    Salary and Inclusion
