Job OverviewThis position offers onsite, hybrid, or remote flexibility with occasional travel to the Champaign, IL headquarters for training and other business needs.
Key Responsibilities- Design, plan, and implement wireless networks, including writing scope of work for onsite surveys, hardware selection, RF planning, and capacity analysis.
- Devise and implement strategies for solving network issues or increasing network performance. This may include development of network system documentation and instructional materials.
- Configure and supervise deployment of wireless infrastructure components such as access points, controllers, and other network devices.
- Develop wireless network capacity planning models to meet customers’ future needs.
- Evaluate and recommend new wireless technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance performance and efficiency.
- Collaborate with industry and vendor contacts as needed to diagnose and resolve wireless performance issues.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior support staff.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Five years experience as a wireless network engineer designing, implementing, and supporting WiFi networks.
- Experience and proficiency with Ekahau or Hamina (preferred) wireless planning tool.
- Strong understanding of wireless networking standards such as 802.11ax and 802.11r.
- Strong knowledge of RF principles, signal propagation, and interference mitigation.
- Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools for performance evaluation.
- Relevant certifications such as CWNP or equivalent vendor certifications are preferred.
- Attention to detail and organization.
- Strong documentation habits.
- Leadership skills to motivate and foster growth in junior technicians.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and clients.
- Proficiency in network configuration and management. Experience with both Active Ethernet and GPON/XGSPON LAN distribution is preferred.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Salary range: $40.00–$60.00/hr.
