Summary

The Controls Engineer leads the planning, design, programming, and commissioning of both hardware and software for manufacturing control systems. This role drives improvements in productivity, quality, and safety by implementing efficient, cost-effective engineering and automation solutions.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Designs, evaluates, and optimizes operational and maintenance procedures for control systems to improve safety, quality, and overall productivity.
  • Evaluates workforce use, spatial needs, and workflow efficiency to recommend optimal equipment and workspace layouts.
  • Partners with planning and design teams to ensure product and tooling designs support production objectives.
  • Works with vendors to specify and procure electrical controls hardware and software that meet project and quality requirements.
  • Projects cycle times, staffing levels, and cost estimates to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Collaborates with leadership and cross‑functional teams to align production capabilities with timelines and strategic initiatives.
  • Uses statistical analysis to forecast future manufacturing demands and assess control system capabilities.
  • Leverages OEM guidelines and maintenance history to define effective preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
  • Aligns maintenance activities with production plans to minimize equipment downtime and maintain readiness.
  • Interprets operational data to identify trends and deliver actionable insights that drive continuous improvement.
  • Provides after‑hours support as needed to address urgent production or maintenance issues.
  • Creates and maintains standardized documentation such as procedures, instructions, checklists, and parameter settings.
  • Updates control system software and archives to ensure process stability and consistent system performance.
  • Follows all safety protocols and actively fosters a culture of workplace safety.
  • Promptly reports accidents, hazards, or unsafe behaviors to ensure timely corrective action.
  • Identifies and resolves safety and quality issues through timely, proactive measures.
  • Reviews, modifies, and maintains electrical schematics to meet NEC codes and internal standards.
  • Actively contributes to Kaizen events and ongoing initiatives to drive continuous improvement.
  • Provides technical support, training, and capital project assistance to the Czech facility both remotely and on‑site.
  • Performs additional after‑hours call‑in schedule as required to support Production/Maintenance.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related electrical discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in controls engineering or a closely related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of controls systems, automation technology and industrial processes.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply information from technical literature, regulations and professional publications.
  • Strong technical writing skills for reports, procedures and business correspondence.
