Capital Projects Manager – Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Capital Projects Manager to oversee several Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects over the next 6-12 months. The primary focus will be on infrastructure projects, specifically facility roof siding repair and railroad repair. This role requires a proactive individual with the ability to manage projects independently, ensuring all tasks are completed on schedule and meet safety standards.
Responsibilities- Manage and oversee capital projects ranging from $0.5 million to $1 million.
- Organize project teams, ensuring efficient and safe project execution.
- Ensure all projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Maintain high safety standards, ensuring compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and other safety protocols.
- Coordinate with contractors and hold them accountable to project requirements.
- Operate independently without a support team, relying on prior project management experience.
- Experience in heavy industrial settings, such as chemical or heavy industries.
- Proven project management experience, particularly in projects valued between $500k and $1 million.
- Strong understanding of planning and scheduling in project management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project and Smartsheet.
- Ability to interpret and work with CAD drawings.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in chemical environments is advantageous.
- Familiarity with roofing or railroad repair projects.
- Experience with pumping instrumentation, construction management, and reliability engineering.
- Proficiency with Excel and experience managing both digital and hard‑copy project files.
This position is 100% on‑site at a chemical manufacturing plant, operating on a four‑day work week, Monday through Thursday, with 10‑hour shifts. The environment is unique and fast‑paced, offering a high degree of independence. Safety is a top priority, and the plant management maintains a hands‑off approach, allowing you to take charge while adhering to safety protocols.
Job Type & LocationContract position based out of Champaign, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $95.00/hr.
