Job Summary

geo Convergence is seeking a detail-oriented LiDAR Technician to support our LiDAR operations through field data collection and scan data processing. This is a hands‑on position focused on operating LiDAR equipment in the field and processing raw point cloud data into clean, usable datasets. The LiDAR Technician will work closely with our LiDAR Specialist and project teams to ensure high‑quality data collection and accurate data processing.

The ideal candidate will have experience in LiDAR scanning operations, point cloud data processing, and a strong technical aptitude for working with 3D spatial data.

Position Responsibilities Field Operations
  • Operate LiDAR equipment in the field to collect accurate point cloud data across various project sites.
  • Perform pre‑scan site assessments to identify optimal scanning positions and potential obstacles.
  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain LiDAR equipment including scanners such as BLK2GO, Nav Vis VLX, and similar platforms.
  • Ensure proper registration and alignment of scans during field collection.
  • Conduct quality checks on scan data while in the field to verify completeness and accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot basic technical issues with equipment during field operations.
  • Maintain detailed field notes and documentation of scanning procedures and site conditions.
  • Travel 70% of the time to project sites for data collection; extended stays may be required depending on project location.
Data Processing
  • Process raw LiDAR point cloud data using industry‑standard software.
  • Clean and filter point cloud data to remove noise, artifacts, and unnecessary elements.
  • Register and align multiple scans to create comprehensive point cloud datasets.
  • Prepare processed point cloud data for delivery or handoff to BIM modeling teams.
  • Organize and archive LiDAR datasets following company protocols and best practices.
  • Conduct quality control checks on processed data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Generate basic deliverables such as orthophotos, digital elevation models, and cross‑sections as needed.
Collaboration and Support
  • Work under the direction of the LiDAR Specialist to support project timelines and objectives.
  • Communicate field conditions, data quality issues, and technical challenges to project teams.
  • Coordinate with project managers regarding scheduling and project requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment inventory and coordinating equipment maintenance.
  • Support the development and refinement of standard operating procedures for data collection and processing.
Qualifications Required
  • Associate's degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Engineering Technology, GIS, or related field, OR equivalent work experience.
  • 1–3 years of experience operating LiDAR or survey equipment.
  • Hands‑on experience with terrestrial or mobile LiDAR scanning systems.
  • Working knowledge of point cloud processing software (e.g., Leica Cyclone, Cloud Compare, Pix4D, ReCap, or similar).
  • Understanding of 3D coordinate systems, registration processes, and data accuracy principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments and manage time effectively.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.
  • Physical ability to carry equipment, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and navigate challenging terrain.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and clients.
Preferred
  • Experience with multiple LiDAR platforms (terrestrial static, handheld, mobile, UAV-based).
