Senior Mechanical Engineer

Henneman Engineering is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Champaign, Illinois office. The role involves mechanical design of cutting‑edge projects in the healthcare, municipal, and higher education industries in Illinois and beyond.

• Perform work as a senior mechanical engineer in all aspects of project development, including client coordination, pre‑design services, final design services, meetings, site visits, RFIs, change orders, and overall project management.
• Conceptualize the initial process, mechanical, and plumbing design approach for projects, with overall responsibility for engineering and/or design work related to process, mechanical and plumbing systems, and code requirements.
• Conduct existing condition surveys and prepare PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, sections, elevations, and details to document relevant conditions.
• Organize, prepare, and review mechanical and plumbing construction drawings (PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, sections, elevations, and details as appropriate), technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
• Develop engineering solutions and designs, cost estimates, bill of materials, and schedules for projects.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable codes and standards related to mechanical, piping, and plumbing systems.

• 4‑Year Mechanical Engineering bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in the United States. Professional Engineer license in Illinois is highly preferred.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in a design and consulting firm. Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design is highly preferred.
