Controls Engineer

Location: Champaign, IL

Employment Type: Full-Time | Exempt (Salaried)

Salary: $74,200 - $115,000 annually (Based on Experience)

Bonus Opportunity: Monthly performance bonus of up to 9% of base monthly salary

A leading manufacturer is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join its Engineering team. This role is responsible for designing, programming, implementing, and supporting manufacturing control systems that improve safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Design, program, commission, and troubleshoot industrial control systems
  • Develop and optimize PLC and HMI programs to improve manufacturing performance
  • Design and maintain electrical control hardware and software
  • Support manufacturing equipment, automation systems, and production processes
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, production, and vendors to implement automation projects
  • Develop preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for automated systems
  • Analyze production data to identify improvement opportunities
  • Maintain electrical schematics and system documentation
  • Ensure compliance with NEC codes, OSHA standards, and internal safety requirements
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including Kaizen events
  • Provide technical support and training to production and maintenance personnel
  • Assist with capital projects and equipment installations
  • Participate in an after-hours support rotation as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related electrical discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of Controls Engineering experience
  • Strong understanding of industrial automation, PLC programming, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and automation systems
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

    Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
Preferred Technical Skills

Experience with:

  • RSLogix 5000
  • Studio 5000
  • Factory Talk View
  • Ignition
  • AutoCAD
  • Solid Works
  • Microsoft Office Suite

Knowledge of:

  • Machine design

Certifications

Required

  • Electrical Safety Certification

Physical Requirements

Work Environment

This position is located within a manufacturing facility and requires occasional exposure to moving machinery, electrical equipment, elevated work areas, airborne particles, and varying noise levels. Appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment are required.
