Job Overview – Financial Controller
Compensation: $100,000 – $160,000/year + bonus
Location: Cook County, IL
Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)
Atlantic Group is hiring a Financial Controller in Cook County, IL for our client, supporting construction accounting, financial reporting, job costing, payroll, cash flow management, and day-to-day accounting operations. This hands‑on leadership role will oversee the accounting function while partnering with executive leadership to support financial performance, operational efficiency, and business growth. The ideal candidate will bring experience with percentage‑of‑completion accounting, work‑in‑progress reporting, and financial management within a project‑based environment.

- Financial Reporting:
Lead month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes while preparing accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP. - Construction Accounting:
Manage job costing, work‑in‑progress reporting, and percent‑of‑completion accounting across multiple projects and service lines. - Payroll Management:
Oversee payroll processing, labor reporting, and compliance requirements for both union and non‑union work forces. - Cash Flow & Forecasting:
Monitor cash flow, liquidity, budgeting, and forecasting activities to support financial planning and decision‑making. - Accounting Operations:
Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing activities, and related accounting processes to ensure operational efficiency. - Financial Analysis:
Perform variance analysis, cost analysis, and performance reporting while identifying opportunities to improve profitability and financial controls.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is required; CPA designation is preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of accounting and finance experience with a strong focus on construction accounting, job costing, and financial reporting.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of percent‑of‑completion accounting, work‑in‑progress reporting, labor compliance, and GAAP principles.
- Technical
Skills:
Proficiency with Quick Books, Microsoft Excel, and accounting or ERP systems. - Skills & Attributes: Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to operate effectively in a hands‑on, growth‑oriented environment.
