Interim Controller – (onsite/hybrid Chicago)

Our client is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to provide hands‑on leadership across accounting operations, financial reporting, and technical accounting matters during a critical period of support. This individual will bring a strong controllership foundation, sound judgment on complex accounting issues, and the ability to work closely with leadership and our Managed Services team to ensure accurate, timely, and well‑controlled financial operations.

• Lead day-to-day accounting and controllership activities, including oversight of the close process, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
• Provide technical accounting leadership on complex or judgmental matters, including revenue recognition, accruals, reserves, balance sheet presentation, and U.S. GAAP application.
• Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial reporting.
• Assess and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and close procedures to support a well‑controlled finance function.
• Partner closely with leadership and E78's Managed Services team to maintain continuity, resolve accounting issues, and support ongoing business needs.
• Support audit readiness and coordinate with external auditors and other advisors as needed.
• Identify process improvement opportunities and implement practical solutions that improve efficiency, visibility, and accuracy.
• Step into the role quickly, establish credibility with stakeholders, and provide steady leadership in an interim capacity.

• Proven experience serving as a Controller or Interim Controller in a hands‑on accounting environment.
• Strong technical accounting expertise with the ability to analyze and resolve complex accounting matters in a practical, business‑oriented way.
• Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and month‑end close best practices.
• Strong accounting and controllership background, ideally within a professional services, financial services, or similarly complex environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional stakeholders and alongside an external Managed Services team.
• Chicago‑based and available to work onsite at the office in downtown Chicago approximately 1–2 days per week.
• CPA preferred.

The ideal candidate is a steady, roll‑up‑your‑sleeves finance leader who can operate strategically while remaining close to the details. They should be comfortable stepping into an interim environment, quickly assessing priorities, and providing strong technical accounting guidance while keeping core accounting operations running smoothly.
