The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly.

- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Health career Association (NHA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (ARMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AAH) - American Allied Health (AAH)
- Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Education:
H.S. Diploma/GED
- Room patients and collect pertinent information related to chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and medication reconciliation.
- Conduct telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities while maintaining and updating patient information per department policies.
- Perform administrative duties including patient check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, prior authorizations, benefits verification, referral coordination, and diagnostic testing coordination.
- Complete office procedures according to department-specific competencies and provider direction.
- Perform clinical procedures including urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture and staple removal, cast application and removal, TB skin test result reading, and point-of-care diagnostic testing.
- Provide patients with written instructions regarding procedures, medications, and follow-up care as directed by providers.
- Retrieve and distribute condition-specific patient education materials from approved resources per provider orders.
- Administer medications as ordered by providers.
- Assist with prescription refill processing according to department protocols.
- Call prescriptions into pharmacies, notify patients of refills, and document all actions within the EMR.
- Maintain competencies related to point-of-care testing, equipment operation, and specialty-specific training.
- Administer immunizations, PPD tests, nebulizer treatments, and oral medications to patients of all ages.
- Obtain and document vital signs including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and pulse for patients of all ages.
- Assist providers with in-office procedures including toenail removal, lesion removal, and wound care.
- Complete comprehensive medication reconciliation, including prescription and over-the-counter medications.
- Assist with completion and processing of physical examination forms and durable medical equipment (DME) forms.
