Pharmacy Technician – Retail

• Assist pharmacists under direct supervision in providing pharmaceutical care
• Fill, compound, reconstitute, and label prescriptions
• Enter accurate patient and medication information into the pharmacy computer system
• Perform calculations for prescription input and dispensing
• Identify patients according to protocol and ensure pharmacist counseling before transaction completion
• Prioritize prescription filling and initial prescription labels
• Maintain drug and supply inventory
• Remove expired medications, rotate stock, and clean and organize assigned areas
• Perform prescription returns and insurance reversals
• Respond to phone inquiries and walk-up service requests
• Use pharmacy department equipment and vendor software
• Facilitate prior authorizations and advanced insurance/provider inquiries when assigned
• Recommend or participate in efficiency and department initiatives
• Participate in quality assurance monitoring, data collection, and analysis

• Certified Pharmacy Technician not required for student pharmacists or technicians licensed before 1/1/2008
• Certified Pharmacy Technician certification within 2 years of license issue date in Illinois, where applicable
• Licensed Pharmacy Technician within 60 days of license application through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
• Perform prescription calculations
• Accurately enter patient and medication information into pharmacy computer systems
• Use point-of-sale equipment, pill counters, and vendor software
• Work a variable schedule Monday–Friday 8 AM–12 AM and Saturday–Sunday 9 AM–12 AM
• Work every other weekend
• No education or prior work experience requirement is stated

Demonstrates proficiency in pharmaceutical care by accurately filling and compounding prescriptions, entering patient information into pharmacy systems, and performing essential calculations. Capable of maintaining inventory and participating in quality assurance initiatives while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
