About the Role

The Champaign County Humane Society (CCHS) seeks a full‑time Humane Educator/Lead Humane Investigator. The Humane Educator/Investigator is responsible for developing and implementing humane education programs and curriculum; making presentations to local classrooms and community groups; conducting educational shelter tours; and overseeing existing programs that include Pet Pals Club, Animal Adventure Camp, and a Parkland College for Kids program.

As the Society’s lead humane investigator, this individual will be an Approved Humane Investigator under the Illinois Department of Agriculture and will investigate complaints regarding possible violations of the Humane Care for Animals Act. This position also includes a leadership role in other outreach initiatives, including support programs for low‑income pet owners and assisting the community with feral and free‑roaming cat concerns.

Qualifications
  • Experience interacting with groups of children.
  • Comfortable with public speaking to audiences of all ages.
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills and handling interactions with the public that may be emotionally charged or otherwise difficult.
  • Good judgement and the ability to handle intense situations with a calm and rational demeanor are essential.
  • Animal handling experience.
  • Knowledge of issues related to companion animal welfare (e.g., free roaming cats; spay/neuter; pet hoarding).
