Position Overview

The Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) serves as a trusted strategic advisor to our clients, providing executive-level technology leadership that drives business growth, operational efficiency, and long-term resilience. This role blends business acumen with technical expertise to develop forward-looking IT strategies, guide technology investments and ensure our services consistently deliver measurable value.

The vCIO partners closely with client executives to understand their goals, assess their technology landscape, and build strategic roadmaps that align IT initiatives with business priorities. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, a consultative mindset, and the ability to influence outcomes across both client and internal teams.

The vCIO may be assigned additional responsibilities as business needs evolve. Flexibility, cross-functional collaboration, and a proactive approach are essential to success in this role.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Strategic IT Leadership
  • Develop and execute multi-year IT strategies tailored to each client’s business objectives, industry standards, and growth plans.
  • Conduct regular strategic review sessions to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, and adjust roadmaps as business needs evolve.
  • Prepare and maintain annual technology scorecards, setting measurable goals to improve alignment and maturity.
Technology Guidance & Innovation
  • Advise clients on emerging technologies, best practices, and industry trends that enhance competitiveness and scalability.
  • Promote innovation within client environments by identifying opportunities to modernize systems, streamline operations, and strengthen security.
Budgeting & Financial Stewardship
  • Collaborate with client leadership to develop IT budgets aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Provide cost-benefit analyses and financial insights that support informed decision-making and responsible technology investment.
Risk Management & Compliance
  • Evaluate and manage technology-related risks, ensuring clients maintain compliance with relevant regulations and frameworks.
  • Recommend and oversee the implementation of risk mitigation strategies.
Client Relationship Management
  • Build strong, consultative relationships with client executives and key stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary strategic liaison, ensuring clients understand the value of their technology investments and our services.
Performance Measurement & Reporting
  • Define, track, and communicate key performance indicators (KPIs) for IT services and strategic initiatives.
  • Deliver clear, actionable reports that highlight progress, insights, and opportunities for improvement.
Internal Collaboration & Culture
  • Partner with Account Management, Service Delivery, and Technical teams to ensure seamless execution of client strategies.
  • Participate in team-building and culture-building activities that strengthen our organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 2+ years of experience in IT consulting, account management, or technical client-facing roles, ideally within an MSP or service-oriented environment.
  • Strong desire to grow into a leadership role that blends business strategy with technology expertise.
  • Solid understanding of IT systems, industry trends, and risk management principles.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Proactive, coachable, and growth-oriented mindset.
  • Experience contributing to IT roadmaps, project planning, or business reviews is preferred.
