Bishop Street Underwriters (BSU) is a specialty insurance holding company with a portfolio of 10+ operating businesses (OpCos) operating across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom with 400+ employees. Since launching in 2023, BSU has grown through acquisition and de novo build-out into an $800M+ gross written premium platform. The Capacity & Reinsurance function is central to that growth: it secures and structures the carrier, reinsurer, and fronting relationships that let every OpCo underwrite with confidence.

Bishop Street Underwriters is seeking an SVP, Capacity & Reinsurance to lead the sourcing, structuring, and ongoing management of insurance and reinsurance capacity across the platform's Managing General Agent (MGA) programs. This is a senior, highly visible role responsible for ensuring that every program underwritten across Bishop Street's portfolio is backed by stable, well-structured, and appropriately priced capacity — and for building the carrier, reinsurer, and fronting relationships that make that possible.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical fluency in specialty insurance and reinsurance structures with strong relationship-management and negotiation skills, and is comfortable operating at the intersection of underwriting, actuarial, and legal. As Bishop Street continues to add OpCos and launch new programs, this person will be the one making sure capacity keeps pace — stepping into live placements and renewal conversations with carriers and reinsurers who expect a credible, well-prepared counterpart from day one.

• Maintain strong market connectivity and proactive relationships to monitor trends, appetite, and potential fit for current, planned, and prospective Bishop Street programs
• Represent Bishop Street in the broader (re) insurance and MGA market, including Lloyd's market, to strengthen the platform's reputation and access to capacity
• Provide market intelligence on capacity trends, pricing cycles, and emerging (re) insurance structures to inform platform strategy
• Manage relationships with key brokers involved in capacity placement with existing programs

• Identify, evaluate, and secure risk-bearing capacity (carriers, fronting partners, reinsurers, Lloyd's syndicates) for current, planned, and prospective program needs across the Bishop Street platform
• Lead each capacity placement including but not limited to sourcing data, developing submission materials, creating marketing strategy and managing negotiations of placements
• Structure primary, quota share, excess of loss, and funds-withheld (re) insurance arrangements both on a direct basis as well as liaising with brokers to create efficient solutions for our programs
• Lead negotiations on Program Administration Agreements (PAAs), fronting agreements, and reinsurance treaty terms, ensuring favorable terms & conditions, indemnification, assignment, and change-of-control provisions

• Work with program leaders to manage the day to day relationship for capacity providers, cedants, and fronting carriers across the platform
• Partner with OpCo leadership and underwriting teams to align program growth plans with available and prospective capacity
