Job Details:

The Mercer University School of Medicine is searching for an Executive Director of Operations on the Macon, Georgia campus.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as senior operational leader overseeing facilities and operational functions across all campuses.
  • Provide strategic leadership supporting academic, clinical, and research missions by aligning operational resources, infrastructure, and compliance activities with institutional goals.
  • Ensure effective financial planning, regulatory compliance, project execution, procurement, HR coordination, and contract oversight, in partnership with the Executive Director of Finance and Administration.
  • Act as principal liaison between the School of Medicine and university departments (e.g., Physical Plant, HR, Risk Management) for major capital projects, facilities operations, and faculty appointments.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from accredited institution in Project Management, Business Administration/Management/Development, Construction/Facilities Management, Public Administration, or related field.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in facilities operations, project coordination, construction management, or operational oversight, including accounting, GAAP knowledge, and budgeting experience.
  • At least three years of management or supervisory experience.
  • Preferred experience in higher education, healthcare, or complex organizations.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability by university carrier.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strategic and Operational Leadership
    :
    Anticipate operational challenges and lead change initiatives that improve efficiency and alignment with institutional goals.
  • Regulatory and Accreditation Compliance
    :
    Understanding of federal, state, and institutional regulations related to medical education, clinical operations, and public appropriations; ensure compliance with LCME, AAMC, and Georgia Board for Physician Workforce.
  • Financial Management and Analysis
    :
    Analyze complex financial data to support decision‑making, budgeting, forecasting, and long‑term planning; manage multi‑million‑dollar budgets across departments.
  • Systems and Technical Proficiency
    :
    Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced), Word, Outlook; familiarity with enterprise budgeting platforms and financial systems.
  • Contract Management and Legal/Financial Interpretation
    :
    Review, negotiate, and manage contracts such as clinical affiliation agreements, vendor contracts, and leases; interpret legal and financial terms.
  • Leadership and Team Development
    :
    Lead, mentor, and develop high‑performing administrative and financial teams across dispersed campuses; strong organizational and delegation skills.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills
    :
    Excellent written and verbal communication; build and maintain productive relationships with academic leaders, clinical partners, administrators, and external stakeholders.
  • Professionalism and Judgment
    :
    Integrity, accountability, professionalism; diplomacy, discretion, and patience in managing sensitive matters.
  • Time Management and Prioritization
    :
    Manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain detail orientation in dynamic environment.
