5-Axis CNC Machinist
This position seeks an experienced 5-axis CNC machinist to support ongoing growth by producing high-precision, tight-tolerance parts to customer specifications. You will set up and operate a variety of CNC machines, including mills, lathes, and turning centers, while reading blueprints, performing offsets, and using precision measuring tools to ensure consistent quality and accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate 5-axis CNC mills to produce precision, tight-tolerance components in accordance with customer specifications and engineering drawings.
- Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and turning centers as required to meet production schedules and part requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to determine machining operations, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Perform machine offsets and tool adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality throughout the production run.
- Use precision measuring instruments, such as calipers and micrometers, to inspect parts and verify that dimensions and tolerances meet specifications.
- Monitor machine performance during operation, identify issues, and troubleshoot basic machining and quality problems to minimize downtime.
- Follow established setups, programs, and processes while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Collaborate with team members, including other machinists and production staff, to coordinate workflow and ensure timely completion of jobs.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to all shop safety procedures and guidelines.
- Document work as required, including recording measurements, noting offsets, and reporting any deviations or issues to the appropriate personnel.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 4+ years of CNC setup machining experience, including setting up machines, tools, and work holding for production runs.
- At least 3+ years of CNC mill experience operating milling machines in a production or job shop environment.
- At least 3+ years of blueprint reading experience, including the ability to interpret dimensions, tolerances, and geometric features.
- At least 3+ years of experience utilizing precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and related inspection tools.
- At least 3+ years of experience performing machine and tool offsets to maintain part dimensions within specified tolerances.
- Demonstrated ability to produce precision, tight-tolerance parts to customer specifications on CNC equipment.
- Solid understanding of CNC machining processes, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, and basic troubleshooting.
- Ability to work independently on assigned jobs while meeting quality and productivity expectations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 2+ years of 5-axis CNC machining experience is strongly preferred.
- 3+ years of CNC turning experience is preferred, including experience with CNC lathes and turning centers.
- 3+ years of CNC lathe experience, including setup and operation, is a plus.
- Experience editing CNC programs at the machine to fine-tune operations and improve part quality is desirable.
- Familiarity with performing offsets and minor program adjustments for multiple machine types is beneficial.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail in a precision machining environment.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team in a machine shop setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $83200.00/yr.
