Job Description

Be a part of a world‑class academic healthcare system, the University of Chicago Medicine, as a Staff Nurse in the 5NW Med/Surg department at our Hyde Park campus. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity and requires residency in the greater Chicagoland area. The 18‑bed, fully telemetry‑capable unit operates 24 h a day, seven days a week and treats a wide variety of adult inpatient populations with various medical conditions.

As a Staff Nurse, you will provide patient‑centered, outcome‑directed care, working with physicians and a multidisciplinary team.

• Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs
• Develops a plan of care for those patients whose needs do not require the expertise of a Case Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients
• Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by Care Center Director or Patient Care Manager
• Provides support to peers by assisting as needed, being a resource person and working as a team member
• Assists Care Center in development/attainment of goals and objectives
• Uses clinical pathways and/or plans of care incorporating standards of practice
• Assesses own need for professional growth and development and seeks appropriate resources to meet needs
• Attends continuing education programs and participates in program evaluation

• Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing
• Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program
• Current Illinois RN license
• Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)

The pay range is based on a full‑time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
