Nurse Manager - Inpatient Adult Behavioral Health

Position located in Champaign, IL at The Pavilion Behavioral Health System, a 110‑bed inpatient hospital with additional residential treatment and outpatient services, including a private school for students with learning disabilities and behavior disorders.

Responsibilities

The Nurse Manager oversees the total assessment, planning, and implementation of patient care to ensure quality services in accordance with the State of Illinois Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, Medicare, and other applicable regulations. In partnership with the Director of Nursing, the Manager maintains appropriate staffing relative to census and acuity levels, manages the adult unit staff, and leads quality and performance improvement initiatives.

  • Together with the Director of Nursing sets and displays standards for the adult unit in accordance with state and federal regulations, establishes clinical goals, and encourages innovative patterns of practice.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Nursing on the unit budget, supports approved budget and goals, and manages staffing and unit FTEs within defined parameters.
  • Trains and develops unit staff to meet the needs of the adult population.
  • Assists in performance improvement initiatives and the development and revision of policies and procedures.
  • Monitors and improves patient and employee satisfaction scores.
  • Applies growth and development principles to assess each patient’s age‑specific needs and provide appropriate treatment and care.
  • Monitors length of stay in collaboration with Utilization Review to consider clinical presentation and regulatory requirements.
  • Develops positive rapport with the Medical Staff and participates in committees to enhance patient care quality.
  • Investigates incidents, submits reports to Administration, Risk Manager, and other outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills needed for an adult patient environment, emphasizes safety, and monitors general unit condition.
  • Adheres to the Hospital and Departmental Service Excellence Action Plan.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Nursing to conduct regular, effective staff meetings.
  • Assists the infection control coordinator with the hospital’s infection control plan.

Qualifications
  • Licensed in Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse with CPR certification required.
  • Prior clinical psychiatric nursing experience and two years of managerial experience preferred; demonstrated progressive roles in nursing leadership.
  • Strong communication and listening skills; projects a positive image and reflects high professionalism.
