of position

we are seeking solar installers to work as part of our field crew in champaign, illinois. The solar installer is responsible for the proper installation of harvest solar systems while representing the harvest solar brand, through the duties outlined below. The ideal candidate will be ambitious and motivated, capable of working with a team and able to follow directions closely. As a solar installer, you will work outside in a commercial construction setting 95–100% of the time.

Work is performed at the job site and locations vary, therefore overnight travel for periods of 3–5 days is required. Harvest values our employees’ work–life balance and overnight travel is primarily scheduled monday through friday. Hotel and transportation costs are covered. $65.00 food per diem is paid for overnight stays.

our compensation package includes an hourly pay rate starting at $21.00. A $2.17/hour premium is paid when you achieve your commercial driver’s license permit, and an additional $2.17/hour is paid when you achieve your commercial driver’s license. Overtime is paid at time and half after 8 hours in a day; monday through sunday.

the major responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • maintain excellent attendance; absenteeism negatively impacts our customers and harvest’s reputation.
  • properly represent harvest solar through professional dress, conduct, and behavior on the site or with customers.
  • follow all instructions to ensure operations are completed safely and product quality is maintained.
  • collaborate with other installers and electricians to ensure product quality.
  • actively participate in safety, quality, productivity, cost‑reduction, and customer satisfaction initiatives.
  • follow instructions from construction project managers and crew leaders.
  • assemble or dismantle scaffolding, bracing, and other temporary structures for the construction site.
  • dig trenches and backfill holes to prepare the site.
  • access and work on roofs, including climbing and descending ladders.
  • use proper safety equipment when working on roofs.
  • operate equipment and machinery used on construction sites.
  • load and unload building materials.
  • clean the construction site by removing hazardous materials and debris.
  • assist craft workers such as carpenters or electricians with their duties, if needed.
  • lay out jobsites, operate equipment to bore holes or drive posts, pour concrete, fasten, level racking, mount solar panels, run wiring, and test array output.
  • perform routine maintenance on company‑owned equipment as directed.
  • report safety incidents to your supervisor/crew leader and complete required accident reports.

educational and certification background

successful candidates will have a high school diploma or ged, a valid non‑suspended driver’s license with the interest and ability to obtain a cdl certification, and be ambitious, motivated, capable of working with a team and able to follow direction. The ideal candidate will have experience accessing and working on roofs, be comfortable working at height, and be capable of working on a sloped surface.
