Role Description Bayerkohler, Ltd. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Champlin, Minnesota. This position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working with individuals and small businesses while building technical expertise in tax, accounting, and advisory services.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare individual, partnership, S corporation, and C corporation income tax returns.
- Prepare bookkeeping, accounting, and monthly financial reporting for business clients.
- Assist with tax planning projections and year-round advisory engagements.
- Prepare quarterly and annual payroll tax filings, including Forms 941, 940, W-2, and 1099 reporting.
- Prepare and file Minnesota Sales and Use Tax returns and other state compliance filings.
- Reconcile bank, credit card, loan, and balance sheet accounts.
- Identify and communicate tax-saving opportunities and potential client issues to supervisors.
- Research tax questions and assist with resolving federal and state tax notices.
- Communicate professionally with clients to obtain information and answer routine questions.
- Assist with new client onboarding and implementation of accounting systems.
- Maintain organized work papers and ensure compliance with firm quality standards.
- Collaborate with team members to improve internal processes and workflow efficiencies.
- Support other accounting, tax, and administrative responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) candidate or actively pursuing CPA licensure.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and tax fundamentals.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines during busy seasons.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
Preferred
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Licensed.
- Experience preparing individual and business income tax returns.
- Familiarity with Forms 1065, 1120S, and 1120.
- Experience with payroll tax filings, including Forms 941, 940, W-2, 1099, Minnesota Withholding, and SUTA.
- Familiarity with Minnesota Sales and Use Tax.
- Experience with Quick Books Desktop and Quick Books Online.
- Experience with Lacerte Tax Software.
- Knowledge of tax research tools and tax planning concepts.
- Prior experience in public accounting.
