Para educator Special Education – 2026-27
Full-Time 184 days/6.5 hrs/day
Duties- Assists in instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room, or center-based settings. Duties may vary by age/level and include:
- Managing behavior (redirecting, calming, or removing a disruptive student)
- Monitoring and recording student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills)
- Managing physical needs: toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Personal Care Assistant certification required to be completed within 30 days of start date.
- Completed 60 semester/90 quarter credits or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or passed the Para Educator exam or Para Pro exam. Documentation required.
- Good communication, interpersonal, recordkeeping skills. Ability/desire to work with technology and computers. Work cooperatively with students and staff. Supervise students. Follow direction. Maintain regular attendance, completing assigned days.
- Must lift a minimum of 40 pounds. Perform position responsibilities including toileting, feeding, self-care procedures, behavioral management, maintain student data, work with students who may display aggressive / abusive / inappropriate verbal or physical behavior. Must work physically in the building.
$20.85/hr to $25.50/hr DOQ with K‑12 experience
$22.00/hr to $26.65/hr with AA/AAS degree or 60 semester/90 quarter credits, DOQ with K‑12 experience*
$22.85/hr to $27.50/hr with BA degree, DOQ with K‑12 experience
Special Ed Paras serving Center based students and classrooms 50% or more of their time receive an additional $0.50 per hour.
Special Ed Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program receive an additional $1.00 per hour. Special Ed Paras at River Trail Learning Center receive an additional $1.50 per hour.
