Para educator Special Education

Full‑time. 184 days/6.5 hrs/day.

• Assist in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room, or center‑based settings.
• Manage behavior (redirect, calm, or remove a disruptive student from the classroom).
• Monitor and record student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
• Manage physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.).
• Other duties may include toileting, feeding, self‑care procedures, implementing behavioral management programs; maintaining student data; working with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Personal Care Assistant certification completed within 30 days of start date.
• Completed 60 semester / 90 quarter credits or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or have passed the Para‑Educator exam or Para Pro exam (Documentation will be required).
• Good communication, interpersonal, and record‑keeping skills.
• Proficient with technology and computers.
• Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff, supervise students, take direction, and maintain regular attendance.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
• Must be physically able to perform work functions, including toileting, feeding, and self‑care procedures, implementing behavioral management programs, maintaining student data, and working with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.
• Must be physically working in the building.

$20.85/hour to $25.50/hour (DOQ with K‑12 experience). $22.00/hour to $26.65/hour with AA/AAS degree or 60 semester/90 quarter credits from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience. $22.85/hour to $27.50/hour with BA degree from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience.

Special Ed Paras serving center‑based students and classrooms 50 percent or more of their time shall receive an additional $0.50 per hour. Special Ed Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program shall receive an additional $1.00 per hour. Special Ed Paras at River Trail Learning Center shall receive an additional $1.50 per hour.
