The Assistant Program Coordinator is a seasonal position that is primarily responsible assisting Program Coordinators with specific youth programs to provide recreational enjoyment for its participants. This role will assist with the development, planning, organizing, and administering youth programs under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and/or Recreation Manager. This position will interact with the youth, public, businesses, and other groups in a professional, courteous, safe, and respectful manner.
ESSENTIALJOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for monitoring specific youth programs and enforcing youth program rules.
- Establish a friendly and positive rapport with facility customers, employees, general public, and promote a respectful and friendly environment for all.
- Responsible for setup and cleanup of program equipment and location and securing equipment.
- Report any potentially dangerous conditions, accidents, and damage to the Recreation Department.
- Responsible for maintaining safety procedures, such as but not limited to monitoring weather, first aid kit supplies, and enforcing rules.
- Responsible for assisting Program Coordinators with the development, planning, and preparation of daily lesson plans and activities.
- Maintaining program direction and discipline while conducting youth programs.
- Receives and provides program feedback to recreation supervisors and to participants and parents when appropriate.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
- Knowledge of youth program practices and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with general public and staff while displaying political agility and discretion.
- Ability to follow-through with work assignments, provide self-direction, and maintain safety procedures.
- Ability to provide good customer service skills to a diverse customer base and effectively communicate with customers, general public, staff, and others.
- Ability to work independently, making decisions based on established City policy, standards and requirements.
- Ability to work effectively and provide a positive environment for children.
- Available to work weekday daytime and evenings, and weekend shifts.
- Must be 15 years old or older.
- Must be able to physically perform all essential duties of the position.
- Certified in First Aid/CPR.
- Prior youth or youth program experience.
Shifts can vary during operating hours from Monday through Sunday daytime and evening shifts.
SUPERVISIONDoes not have any direct reports. This position works independently with minimal supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS Environmental and Physical ConditionsPossible exposure to inclement weather conditions. Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, walking for prolonged periods of time; kneeling, climbing, bending, and stooping, moderate lifting and carrying; general manual dexterity; adequate hearing, vision, and speech required; and must be able to evaluate situations and react appropriately.
